If Jesus is God, was he praying to himself?
Quick answer
No. Jesus prayed to the Father. The Son and the Father are distinct persons. Prayer in the Gospels is evidence of personal distinction within the Godhead, not proof that Jesus is a mere creature.
Persons, not modes
If the Father and the Son were the same person, prayer would collapse into self-talk. Historic Christianity denies that. The Son addresses the Father because the relationship is real. That is also why baptismal and apostolic formulas name Father, Son, and Spirit together.
What the objection misses
Unitarian readings treat prayer as an automatic denial of deity. Scripture does not. Hebrews presents the Son as the radiance of God’s glory who also offers prayers and petitions in the days of his flesh. Both are true because the Incarnation is true.
