Why is it wrong for Muslims to invoke Muhammad when the Quran itself encourages supplication to Allah alone?

The Quran clearly instructs Muslims to call upon Allah alone for their needs and to seek His help without any intermediaries. Verses such as Surah 2:186 and Surah 72:20 reinforce the idea that supplication is a direct act of worship reserved for Allah. Furthermore, the Quran criticizes those who invoke others besides Allah, highlighting that such actions are misguided and contrary to true worship. In contrast, the practice of invoking Muhammad not only goes against these teachings but also risks placing Muhammad in a position of divine intercession, which the Quran explicitly denies by stating that he has not created anything nor has any authority in the heavens. This contradiction illustrates a significant theological inconsistency within the Islamic practice of venerating Muhammad, as it undermines the very essence of monotheism that the Quran advocates.
