Supplications and invocations are the essence of worship, and calling upon anyone besides Allah is a form of shirk.

The Quran clearly states that worship is to be directed to Allah alone, which Muslims interpret as a prohibition against invoking anyone else. However, Christians understand that Jesus, being fully God and fully man, serves as the mediator between God and humanity. 1 Timothy 2:5 states, 'For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.' This indicates that Christians can pray through Jesus without violating the command to worship God alone. Moreover, the concept of worship in Christianity includes the acknowledgment of Jesus' divine authority. In John 14:13-14, Jesus encourages His followers to ask in His name, promising that He will do it. This shows that invoking Jesus is not an act of shirk but rather an integral part of Christian worship, as it recognizes His role in the divine plan of salvation. Additionally, the New Testament presents instances where prayer is directed to Jesus, such as in Acts 7:59, where Stephen calls upon the Lord Jesus. This further supports the idea that invoking Jesus is consistent with Christian doctrine and does not contradict the principle of worshiping God alone. Therefore, the Christian understanding of prayer and supplication encompasses both direct prayers to God the Father and prayers made in the name of Jesus, affirming His divinity and role as mediator.
