When asked about the greatest commandment, Jesus quoted this passage, emphasizing that there is only one Lord. This indicates that Jesus acknowledges the oneness of God while also revealing his divine identity. Furthermore, in John 17:1-3, Jesus refers to the Father as the only true God, which some interpret as a denial of his divinity. However, this does not negate the fact that Jesus also claimed divine authority and oneness with the Father in other passages, such as John 10:30, where he states, 'I and the Father are one.' This illustrates the complex relationship within the Godhead, where Jesus, while distinct in person, shares the same divine essence as the Father. Additionally, the New Testament writings affirm that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies, asserting his identity as Yahweh incarnate, who came to redeem humanity.
